Breast Implants: What Are My Options?

Depending on what your desired result is, you’ll have a few different options for your breast augmentation implants. Your surgeon and the qualified staff at Quintessa can explain which are better for the look you want to achieve. Here’s a look at the most typical breast implants available.

Round Implants

This type of breast implant is symmetrical in shame and resembles a half dome. Some women prefer this type as it provides a consistent fullness and round shape to the breasts. If they rotate slightly, it’s unnoticeable, unlike other types of implants that must remain in the same position.

Saline Implants

1. Pre-consultation

Before your consultation, we encourage you to explore our gallery of before and after breast augmentation photos. This can allow you to see various examples and choose “wish pictures” to reference during your consultation.

We also provide a pre-consultation video that reviews all available options and goes over safety considerations in detail.

Consultation/Examination
During your consultation, we’ll discuss your specific goals and concerns, view your wish pictures, and answer any questions you might have. Our surgeons perform an examination to determine if you need a breast lift or if there are any asymmetries to consider. This is when you’ll get to try on sizers and see the 3D simulation of potential results.

We don’t expect you to commit to a size during the consultation.

Pre-surgery visit
We schedule a pre-surgery visit to review preoperative and post operative instructions, go over safety considerations and sign consent forms, reviewed prescription medications and to review sizing options and determine your final implant size.

2. Recovery and Aftercare

After the breast augmentation surgery, you can expect to take pain medicine for 1-3 days and then over-the-counter pain relievers for another 1-3 days. However, some patients may need no pain medicine at all.

It is normal to feel a slightly uncomfortable sense of tightness or swelling around the breast area, but most patients report that this feeling goes away within a week.

You will be placed in a bra at the end of the procedure. You may remove this and shower after 24 hours. It’s important to use a gentle compression bra during the first six weeks and stronger bra support when you start doing activities for the first three months. We recommend these compression bras for the first few weeks.

You should avoid underwire bras for at least six weeks. You may have some numbness and hypersensitivity of the breast. This is normal and will improve with time. You should avoid rigorous exercise for at least two weeks but we encourage you to be up and walking several times throughout the day.

Recovery and Aftercare: What to Expect and What to Do

A common concern of those considering breast augmentation therapy is how long the recovery process is. The professionals at Quintessa can help ease your concerns and are open to any and all questions you may have.

Once the surgeon has performed the procedure, there are a few things that you can expect:

  • Mild discomfort
  • Feeling of tightness or swelling in the breast region
  • Moderate bruising
  • Increased sensitivity to touch

For the first 1 to 3 days, you’ll need to take pain medication. For the following three days, you can take over-the-counter pain medications. Some patients only experience minor pain after the procedure and don’t require anything. For the first week, it’s normal to experience pain, discomfort, and tightness in the chest area.

Once the procedure is completed, you’ll be placed in a bra. Leave it on for 24 hours before taking it off and showering. Avoid wearing an underwire bra for the first six weeks. We recommend you wear a gentle compression bra for two weeks. After that, you can wear a bra with more support for the next three months.

Possible Risks

While breast augmentation surgery can yield beautiful results, it’s essential to be informed of potential risks and complications. These can include bleeding, adverse reactions to anesthesia, scarring, and changes in nipple or breast sensation. Capsular contracture, a condition where scar tissue forms around the implant and tightens, may occur. Implants may also rupture or leak, leading to additional surgery. In rare cases, asymmetry, wrinkling, or rippling of the breasts may develop.

To minimize these risks, it’s crucial to choose a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon that you trust, follow post-operative care instructions diligently, and communicate openly about any concerns throughout the process.
